The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
