Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd choose in that spot other than him with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he added.
Toronto's team won the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
