Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
